This is why I have the best husband ever.

  • Renee: and at 4am, I decided to quit being such a whiny twat, eat some waffles, and then go to bed (when I finish my waffles)
  • DestructoMD: Well, I don't know about the first part, but I'm glad you're eating and going to get some rest.
  • Renee: me too. not very tired, but I'm at least no longer edgy
  • Renee: i'm sorry that I can be (and very often am) a pill. I hope my puns make up for it.
  • DestructoMD: You're not a pill baby.
  • DestructoMD: You are the love of my life.
  • DestructoMD: And not in an ironic way like Bill Nighy
  • Renee: i don't think you are complimenting my puns enough, though. am I being pun-ished?
  • DestructoMD: ACK!
  • Renee: ;)
  • Renee: see? i'm me again! puntastic!
  • Renee: it's all that incorrigment you give me. thank you
  • Renee: but for serious, I love you so so so much, and not just because you put up with me.
  • Renee: and not just because you have an awesome beard
  • DestructoMD: lol Well good. Because I have so many great qualities!
  • Renee: and not just because I agreed to
  • Renee: but because you are the most amazing person I've ever ever known
  • DestructoMD: I am now saddened at how few people you've met. :(
  • Renee: lol
  • Renee: i love you. night night. or early morning early morning.
  • DestructoMD: DO NOT LAUGH AT MY SADDNESS EMOTICON!
  • DestructoMD: And I love you, too, babe

Sweet Potato Pancakes
I needed to use up some leftover mashed sweet potato, so I made these up this morning from what I had in the cupboard and they turned out pretty good! The batter is pretty thick so you can gradually add water to make it more pourable. They worked out well for me and hopefully for you too! :) It makes about 8 12cm pancakes.
(And I went a bit overboard with the maple syrup in the photo!)
1/2 cup wholemeal flour (or a gluten free mix)
1/2 oat flour
2 tsp baking powder
Pinch of salt
2 tsp of spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, etc.)
2 tbls oil
1/2 cup mashed sweet potato
1 cup coconut milk
1 tsp vanilla
2 tbls maple syrup
Mix together the wet ingredients. Then add the dry ingredients and mix. Let it sit for a couple of minutes and cook!

jephjacques: UN Hearing On AI Rights

I’m going to blame my generally overemotional state on how much this completely fictional speech moved me, but in reality, I don’t feel like we always do this with the other humans around us, let alone any future artificial intelligence.

jephjacques:

The subject of this debate is whether AIs are “people-” whether they possess the same degree of personhood as humans, and whether that entitles them to the same rights.

You have heard all the arguments for and against the consciousness, intelligence, free will, and cognition of artificial…

  • Renee: either we have a poltergeist or i've become enough of a frat boy today to leave the fridge door open for an hour.
  • DestructoMD: lol
  • DestructoMD: I will pray for ghosts.
  • Renee: hahaha
  • DestructoMD: Ain't marryin' no frat boy
  • Renee: TOO LATE BRO!!
  • DestructoMD: Nooooooooooooo

My son is building a miniature golf course out of legos

  • Matt: Son, you're playing mini golf with a 20-sided die and no club. There are some inherent structural flaws.
  • Cayden: Don't worry about that.

Calling all dreamers and schemers and artists of all kinds

I have a theory that a lot of the problems in our society right now exist because we don’t always see each other as fellow human beings. Corporations outright discourage humanizing one another, because it’s harder to make money (and from another point of view, big hard decisions) if you look at everyone as a human being, as worthy of love and care as the people you love and most care for.

*big deep breath*

So I want to get some sort of large project together to help people reclaim their own humanity, and encourage us all to see the humanity in each other.
